Extended Abdominoplasty

An extended abdominoplasty is as the name says: it involves the removal of excess fat and skin from the abdomen, thighs and the back. It is also known as ‘circumferential’ surgery.

It is an ideal procedure for getting rid of those ‘love handles’ and other unsightly fat deposits.

It can be combined with other procedures such as a lower body lift, breast uplift or breast reduction and liposuction.

This surgery is usually performed under a general anaesthetic and due to its extensive nature, will take around 3 hours to complete.

It is a popular choice of procedure for those patients who have undergone obesity surgery and have lost vast amounts of weight. The results of this are likely to be large, sagging folds of fat and skin.

This is one variation of the ‘tummy tuck’ procedure. Other variations include the partial or mini abdominoplasty and the full abdominoplasty.

Please visit our full abdominoplasty FAQs section which contains in-depth information about this procedure.

The FAQs below provide a short overview of this surgery.

What is an ‘extended abdominoplasty’?

This is the name given to a variation of the full abdominoplasty procedure. It involves the removal of excess fat and skin from the stomach, thighs, hips and lower back.

This means a longer scar which will take longer to heal.
